A Side-Hinge garage door is a very basic and traditional style of garage door that can be manufactured in timber, GRP (a tough, weather-resistant plastic material, re-inforced by glass fibres) or steel.
Side hinge doors open outwards, with the pivotal point at one end of the door, attached to the frame. They need a lot of clearance when they're being opened, so they're not too great if you have a very short driveway, or if your garage opens directly onto the street or a public area. Conversely, they can be an ideal choice if there's not enough clearance inside your garage to allow for an up-and-over garage door type such as a canopy or retractable.

Security is good if you have overlapping leaves, and use bolts at both the top and bottom of the door. Although side-hinge garage doors are usually manually operated, automation is possible with the use of a side-hinge converter - a device that attaches each wing to an electric operator. |
